With this piece, I decided to explore texture for the first time. With the use of crackle paste I wanted to create the effect of cracking concrete. Concrete reminds me of our adult minds. When we are children, we are moldable, malleable, and open. As we navigate through our lives, we solidify our thought patterns, ideologies, and opinions (like concrete) based on our experiences. As we know, many of these thought patterns, ideologies, and opinions are based in fear and often no longer serve us in positive ways as we grow older.
As time passes, concrete cracks. However, instead of slabbing on another layer of concrete, I wanted to show with this painting the possibility of light slipping in. Light, new ideas, revisited thoughts, and healed emotions slipping into the cracks of our minds.
Dim. : 36x24 inches
